Tuesday, April 5th: As we sat down to dinner, 4 guys came to remove the one remaining shack. They had a half-ton and an ATV. They were unable to take the half-ton down to the ice as it was quite raw and the coverage in the cove was about 66%. Because of the warmer weather and the tidal action, the shack had sunk about 30 - 50 cm into the ice. They got a rope around it and brought in the ATV. Meanwhile, a couple of the fellows had gone thru the ice a couple of times as well as the ATV. After getting the ATV out of the water and slightly closer to shore, they started to pull, and ripped off one side of the hut. They then proceeded to smash a hole in the roof with some time of bar and tie a rope around and thru the wall. Again, they had to get the ATV out of the water and on to some ice. The guy gunned it and ended up half-way on to the street as obviously, theses were not Scouts - the knot just slipped apart. After tying another knot, they got the ATV stuck thru the ice and had to haul it up and gave up for the night.
